I am going to keep this post short and simple. There is a way you can beat everyone else to book a reward night at an IHG hotel the moment the night is released. The award you book will be the furthest night out you can book on IHG’s website.
When searching on ihg.com for a reward night, try to book the night that is furthest out.
The night that is furthest out is the second to last night you can click on. If you try to search on the last night this is what you get…
Once you search you will get your list of hotels. Click the “Change Search” button at the top of the screen.
Now change the Check In date to the latest date available (this is the one that fails if you try to do it on the main IHG search page). In my case I will change it to August 2nd 2016. The Check In date at this point may or may not change. I have found 1 of 3 scenarios happens. I will be speaking in terms of example screen shots I am using.
- The Check In date stays at August 2nd 2016. This causes the search to fail.
- The Check In date changes to the 2nd day of some month earlier in 2016. This causes the search to fail.
- The Check In date changes to August 3rd 2016. This causes the search to succeed.
IHG releases reward nights at 11:00 PM EST, and so this is the time I would try to book your night. If can successfully pull of this trick you can book a reward night before others even think that night is available. This is the trick I used to book 6 nights at the IHG Thalasso resort that I will be staying at this summer.
Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!
