We recently visited Indonesia and decided to visit Bali. Brittany had been before, but it was my first time. Brittany had a few free night certificates for category 1-5 Marriott hotels from hotel and flight packages we had redeemed. It looked like Bali was a good place to use one of them and we found two hotels that interested us: the Courtyard Bali Seminyak Resort and the Courtyard Bali Nusa Dusa Resort. The Nusa Dusa is a category 5 and the Seminyak is a category 4. We chose the Seminyak resort due to the proximity to other restaurants and because it seemed like Seminyak had more to offer.
Check-in was smooth. We were offered “welcome beers” to sip on during check in. We were informed that we had been upgraded to a suite and that it would be about 15 minutes until our room was ready.
The Room & Pool
The room was amazing. The hotel has only been open for about 2 years and everything felt very new. We had a suite on the first floor, which meant we had walk-in, walk-out access from our room to the pool. The only downside was the noise from everyone at the pool starting fairly early in the morning.
The pool is located in the center, between all of the buildings containing the rooms. It occupies pretty much every square inch that is available. The other complaint I have is about the pool itself. There are simply not enough lounge chairs for the quantity of rooms this hotel has. If you want chairs for the day, you will have to go extremely early and reserve a spot (which I hate when people do, but it’s the only way). There are signs saying that staff will remove stuff if no one has been in the chair for 30 minutes, but in practice I never saw this happen.
We were able to select a welcome drink (in addition to the welcome beers) along with a few food options. We chose the cheese and crackers. They were delivered to our room a few hours after we checked in. Platinum members also receive breakfast for free (more later on this), 15% off all food and drink, and access to an open bar on Thursday nights where you can meet and speak with the upper management at the hotel.
Thanks to Brit’s status, we had access to free breakfast at the Marriott’s onsite restaurant called Seminyak Kitchen. As you can see from the link, it is actually one of the top rated restaurants in Seminyak on TripAdvisor. The breakfast was phenomenal. There was a huge selection from Western options to Asian options. We never got sick of the breakfast during our 5 night stay.
The location was pretty great. It’s within walking distance of many shops/restaurants as well as the beach. The beach was only a 10 minute walk away. The hotel also has it’s own beach section with some lounge chairs. It took us a very long time to find it (it is located pretty far down the beach) and once we got there there were no chairs available. The area they had with chairs was absurdly small. If you want to take advantage of these chairs, you will need to go very early. Otherwise, there were plenty of people on the beach looking to sell you access to their beach chairs.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard Bali Seminyak resort. I believe it is a steal being a category 4 and costing only 20,000 points a night, or 80,000 points for 5 nights using Marriott’s 5th night free award benefit. The rooms are great, as is the breakfast, and if you are looking to do some eating and shopping, Seminyak is a great place to go in Bali.
